Official reports 16 killed in clan clashes in Cueibet

Sixteen people were killed and 16 wounded in recent inter-clan clashes in Cueibet County of Lakes State, according to the county government.

Cueibet Commissioner Mayom Malek told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that the fighting started on Thursday before it was contained on the evening of the same day. He said the killing was the result of an old feud dating to last May.

Separately, the Lakes State Minister of Law Enforcement Jok Ayom Majak told Radio Miraya that at least 15 people were killed and 21 people wounded in the clashes between the Pan-Awuor and Pan-Aguong communities on Thursday evening.

“On the side of Pan-Awuor, 12 people were killed and 16 wounded and on the side of Pan-Aguong, three people were killed and five injured,” he said.

Jok said security reinforcements were dispatched to calm tensions between the communities.
