Ngok Dinka tribe to bury victims of Maker Abior attack

The Ngok Dinka community in the contested region of Abyei area between Sudan and South Sudan has formed a committee to organize the burial of their people killed in the recent fighting in Maker Abior area in northern Abyei.

Representatives of the Abyei Area Administration, civil society organizations and native administration as well as the SPLM are named to the committee.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the Ngok Dinka paramount chief, who is also tasked to be the head of burial committee, Balabek Deng Kuol stated the burial of Maker Abior victims will take place on Wednesday.

He noted they notified the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) to attend the burial at the designated site and to provide protection to the mourners. The International Committee of the Red Cross was also informed to help in the process, according to Kuol.

The number of people killed in the Maker Abior village attack has not been verified. The chief claims the number is more than 100.

Kuol also affirmed that the security situation is relatively stable and calm in Abyei area. But he predicted it could worsen in the coming days.
