Residents of Juoljok community in Abyei have set up a community centre, the first of its kind in the border territory between Sudan and South Sudan.

Deng Majieth Anguak, chairperson of the Juoljok community committee, said one of the community’s priorities was to reduce the number of weapons that had been brought into Abyei by people coming from conflict areas.

Abyei Today reported that the office would tell the authorities if anyone’s behaviour was a problem. It would also draw up a list of work being carried out by INGOs, and tell them and the AAA if other tasks needed doing.

The community police commander, Dabang Daak Akol, agreed there was a problem with people bringing in guns. He said anyone seeing someone with a weapon should report them, and they would be arrested.
