New arrivals at Joda checkpoint need food and shelter

Hundred of South Sudanese in Renk of Upper Nile fled to Joda checkpoint in Sudan’s White Nile state following the outbreak of fresh fighting between the government forces and opposition fighters last week.

Multiple sources told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the new arrivals are in dire condition due to shortages of shelter and food.

Dozens of families travelled to various towns of White Nile state and the capital Khartoum. The conflict-affected people urged the warring parties to stop the fighting.

Meanwhile, hundreds of South Sudanese nationals from Upper Nile have reached Sherkole camp in Ethiopia last week.

A refugee told Radio Tamazuj that about 425 South Sudanese refugees have already arrived and that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has their registration in order to provide them with food and other services.

Separately, a considerable number of Blue Nile students living in Maban County have arrived in Sherkole camp seeking educational opportunities.
