The caretaker governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state has rejected the demand by the chief of staff of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army – Juba faction (SPLA-Juba), General Paul Malong Awan to sack his development advisor, Yel Deng Nguel.

Kuel Aguer Kuel said the charges brought against his advisor were unfounded allegations without substantial evidence and therefore he rejected the demand.

Earlier it was reported that Yel was detained at Wunyiik military base on orders of Gen. Malong, who is also the ex-governor and current chairman of the ruling party in the state.

According to the caretaker governor Kuel, who spoke today at a briefing of the members of parliament from Northern Bahr el Ghazal in Juba, “They have asked me to relief him (Yel Deng Nguel) from his position as advisor and allowed him to be transferred to Juba from where he is arrested now but I refused.”

“I rejected the demand because charges which have been brought against him were unreasonable and based on unfounded propaganda and hearsay.  The people who made these fabrications said he has said he would slap General Malong in the meeting.”

“What for?  Why someone would slap another person in the meeting,” he asked.

Kuel accused unnamed people of wanting to cause confusion to further divide the people of the state and to push others into joining the rebellion.

“This was how General Dau was pushed out and forced to rebel. This situation should not be entertained and we called on all our people to talk to the people who are involved in this practice to stop it. The politics of subjugation and divide will not take us anywhere. It will weaken our strength and make us vulnerable,” he warned.
