Mayom commissioner says rebels moving to attack in Unity

The Mayom County Commissioner alleged the SPLA-IO rebels are preparing to launch a fresh attack on SPLA-Juba forces in the state.

John Bol told Radio Tamazuj Monday that they spotted movement of defected troops on Monday and found that rebels have come closer to SPLA positions at Lor in advance of an attack.

Bol said the rebels moved from Rubkona to Lor and Teb villages, four hours away from the government positions.

He further said the rebels received weapons and ammunition from the Sudanese government at Heglig area a few days ago.

Unity state security advisor John Malok also told Radio Tamazuj of a possible rebel attack, saying they may target Wangkei and Bentiu on Tuesday or Wednesday via Nhialdiu and Wadekorna.

Malok said his information comes from reliable sources within the rebels.

He added that civilians in Bentiu town have returned to the UNMISS camp in case of an attack.

Radio Tamazuj was unable to reach opposition fighters in Unity state to comment on the claims due to poor network.

Alleged Rizeigat recruitment to SPLA-IO

Separately, a source from South Darfur state indicated that the Rizeigat tribesmen are being recruited into the ranks of SPLA-IO forces in Bahr El Arab area.

Local youths were lured with money to participate in planned battles on Bentiu town, according the same source.

“This move is dangerous because it may cause differences between the Dinka and Rizeigat tribes. So it also could jeopardize mutual interests and agreement signed by the two tribes,” the source said.
