Man killed in Lopa cattle raid incident

A man was on Thursday killed during a cattle raid incident in Lopa County of Eastern Equatoria State, police said.

Major Justin Kleopas Takuru, the state police spokesperson, told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred when local youth clashed with cattle raiders before crossing to Kidepo Valley side.

“According to reports, one of the raiders was killed. The cows were stolen from the Ilangi boma in Lopa County,” Takuru explained.

The police officer appealed to the local population to desist from all forms of violence and ensure peace prevails in their villages.

Many areas in South Sudan have suffered decades of violence, mainly caused by cattle raiding and grazing land.
