Talks between South Sudanese government delegation and the SPLM-in-Opposition delegation have been postponed. They had been scheduled to start yesterday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Information Minister Michael Makuei Lueth stated the IGAD mediators notified them that the resumption of the second phase of peace talks has been rescheduled until 28 April.

He noted his delegation will travel to Addis Ababa for the peace talks on 27 April.

When asked about the ongoing military escalation on the ground and its negative effect on peace prospects, the government spokesman reaffirmed that the government is committed to peace through dialogue “despite the violations from the rebels’ side and massacres in Bentiu.”

For his part, the spokesman of the SPLM/A-in Opposition, Yohanis Mosa Puok, told Radio Tamazuj that his team had already arrived in Addis Ababa for the talks. He confirmed they received a notification officially about the resumption of the second round of peace negotiations on 28 April.
