Lakes authorities reconcile youths of feuding clans

Gelweng youths of the Kuei, Rup and Pakam clans of Rumbek Centre and North counties in Lakes State have agreed to live together in peace and harmony.

At a gathering at Akon Buoi Cultural Hall in Rumbek, Lakes State Caretaker Governor Matur Chut Dhuol urged youths to maintain peace and harmony among each other.

Matur thanked the peace committee for reconciling the three sections and added that the state government will support the ongoing peace initiatives in the state.

State Security Advisor Marial Amuom Malek urged the gathering to extend the peace initiative to neighboring states. Gabreil Kuc Abyei commended the Gelweng youths for accepting the call for peace. Gabriel appealed to the state government to continue with the peace initiative.

In a separate development, the governor issued a decree on Wednesday this week relieving Commissioner of Cueibet County Isaac Mayom Malek, Commissioner of Rumbek East Matian Ayuon and Commissioner of Yirol West county George Kuac Dhieu.  

The decree comes into effect from  16 December, 2015. No reason was provided for their relief. The governor has also ordered the Executives Directors of the three counties to act.
