Salva Kiir has lifted the year-long dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on South Sudan's capital Juba.

The curfew began during the outbreak of violence in December 2013 which led to South Sudan's ongoing civil war.

“H.E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, would like to inform the general public that the curfew has been lifted in Juba effective from December 23, 2014," read an order announced by Awan Guol Riak, Minister in the Office of the President.

"All security organs are hereby directed to adhere to this declaration and to continue to observe law and order all times."

Awan said Kiir issued the directive in light of the improved general security situation in Juba and surrounding areas after meeting with the SPLA-Juba Security Council.
