Juba University dean detained by National Security

A top official at Juba University was detained without charge by security personnel, according to multiple academic sources.

Dr Leonzio Angole Onek, the Dean of the Applied and Industrial Science of the University of Juba, was picked up by the security in Juba on Monday, 7, December, 2015, a source told Radio Tamazuj.

This comes after reports that another Juba University professor, Luka Biong, was forced to flee the country after organizing a symposium about the 28-states proposal of Salva Kiir.

“Professor Onek left office on Monday at around 5:30 and was going home, his car was blocked by car that belonged to security agents and later he was handcuffed and pushed to a security car,” the source said.

The academic is being held by the National Security Service, a security branch supervised by a minister within the Office of the President. The security have not provided a reason for his detention.
