South Sudan has announced its intention to file a formal complaint against Sudan to the United Nations Security Council and the African Union’s Peace and Security Council regarding air strikes and ground attacks in disputed territory.

Juba based spokesman, Barnaba Benjamin, said that continued attacks which South Sudan claim were on South Sudanese land, violated Juba and Khartoum’s cooperation agreement signed last year.

Benjamin further claimed that the Sudan armed forces continue to occupy South Sudanese territory along the disputed areas and that the South Sudanese army, the SPLA, would not withdraw from such areas.

South Sudan and Sudan agreed to demilitarise the disputed border region in September last year during peace talks in Addis Ababa.
