Primary Leaving Examinations in South Sudan’s Jonglei state have kicked off Tuesday. The exams were set to last for two days only.

The State Minister of General Education Tut Kuony Nyang told Radio Tamazuj the same examinations were also made available in the rebel-controlled areas through the cooperation of international organizations.

He said about 1108 candidates sat for the examinations across the state including some exams administered in rebel controlled-areas as well as refugee camps.

The official pointed out that centres were opened in Pangak and Akobo, saying that education is a national concern despite the ongoing conflict.

Kuony also thanked the international NGOs for working hand in hand with the state government by taking the examination papers to students in the rebel-controlled areas.
