Some local residents of South Sudan’s Jonglei State are grabbing land allocated for investors in the capital, Bor since 2008, the chairperson of the state investment commission said Monday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, John Achiek said some local residents have illegally occupied land meant for investments in Bor town.

“Six pieces of investors’ lands in Block M and Block P neighborhoods were illegally leased to local residents by the Anyidi community,” he said.

 The official urged residents occupying land allocated for investors to quit, saying their presence would affect development in the state.

 Meanwhile Anyang Koryom, one of the Anyidi community chiefs, said that they leased to the locals 235 pieces of land in the disputed area, but denied the area was allocated to investors.
