Johnson Olony’s forces pledge support for peace implementation

A commander in the Aguelek forces of rebel Major-General Johnson Olony reiterated their commitment to implement the peace agreement between President Salva Kiir and armed opposition leader Riek Machar.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, Hassan Otor denied reports in Khartoum media last week that Olony defected from Machar's ranks. The commander confirmed that they are part of the SPLA/M-in-Opposition.

“We are still with the SPLA-IO under Dr. Riek Machar, the leader of the revolution. And there are people who claim that we have rejected the peace but rather we are committed to this peace,” Otor said.

The forces known as Aguelek mainly of the Shilluk tribe under General Johnson officially declared their merger and incorporation into SPLA-IO in early July.
