John Garang University receives more than 60 computers

Members of the South Sudanese diaspora in the United States have donated 63 desktop computers to Dr. John Garang Memorial University in Bor, according to university administrators.

Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Robert Mayom said the contribution from ‘Lost Boys’ from the Greater Bor area was a welcome surprise, since the university’s computer lab was very short on machines.

The university lost most of its computers during fighting in 2013. Mayom went to the United States earlier this year on an academic mission and members of the diaspora then made a promise to send the computers.

“These computers will boost the learning environment for students,” Mayom said.

He said it has been a tough time for the university, saying the university has not received any support from the government since former Governor Kuol Manyang Juuk became minister of defense in 2013.
