Hundreds displaced by recent fighting in W Bahr al Ghazal

Hundreds of citizens from Bisselia, Bazia and Baggari areas have fled to Wau County due to recent clashes between the government forces and armed opposition fighters in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal State, a party official said.

Secretary-General of the United Democratic Salvation Front (UDSF) Saeed Juma told Radio Tamazuj that insecurity in Bazia, Baggari and Bisselia forced about 400 civilians to leave their homes and flee to Logologo and Al Gazira residential areas in Wau town.

The opposition party member attributed the main cause of insecurity to what he term “bad relationship” between the citizens and SPLA forces, besides the military escalation between the government army and rebels.

Juma accused both sides of violating the ceasefire agreement, while appealing to the warring parties to abide by the signed peace agreement in South Sudan.

Separately, Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that detained members of civil society organizations were released by security agents in the state.
