Farmers of Habilla Agricultural Project in Sudan’s South Kordofan are complaining about restrictions on fuel purchases imposed by security operatives in Dilling locality.

Restrictions on the goods at the market were imposed by the local authorities to thwart smuggling of goods to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North by sympathizers in Habilla area. The restrictions are often used as a pretext to seize goods.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, farmers said the government should be held responsible for the failure of this year’s agricultural season, owing to the negative impact of these restrictive measures.

“Security agents have been restricting the purchase of fuel, besides other consumer goods at the market,” a farmer said.

He said the suspicions by the security agents against the farmers were “unjustifiable and illogical.”

Earlier this week the Sudanese Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid said he would make it a priority to support this year's farming season in South Kordofan.
