The State Information Minister in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Jacklin Nyibol, has said that the Aweil community who had unanimously endorsed the removal of Governor Paul Malong Awan in Juba, are in the minority.

At a conference convened in Juba on 30 November, a group of intellectuals allegedly representing the entire Aweil community, accused the governor of violating constitutional provisions and insistedthat he should be immediately removed from office by President Salva Kiir.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Nyibol pointed out that those demanding the removal of the governor have to wait until the upcoming 2015 elections. The Minister called upon the Aweil community members who are against Malong to seek lawful means for their protests.

In accordance with the South Sudan Transitional Constitution, governors are elected, but the President of the State, under article 101 (r) and (s), can remove them.
