Northern Liech State Governor Joseph Monytuil has apologised to the national lawmakers after he was accused of obstructing the dissemination of the peace agreement in the state.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, the head of the parliamentary committee for information, Paul Yoane Bonju said Governor Monytuil was summoned by parliament on Wednesday to answer allegations that he blocked a planned trip by two MPs to the state, where they were due to disseminate peace.

The two lawmakers were identified as Jibril Tap Gatjiek and Fatuma Nyawang Bilieu.

Bonju said the governor denied any wrongdoing when asked to apologise, attracting threats from MPs who wanted him impeached.

“When the governor was requested to take the podium, he said he had never done anything, but because of the pressure from MPs threatening to impeach him, he was told to ask for forgiveness,” said Bonju.

He said the state governor was warned that he would be impeached if he refuses to apologise to members of the national legislative assembly.

“After a long debate by MPs on the issue, the governor, Dr. Joseph Monytuil apologised and he was forgiven,” said Bonju.

He said some lawmakers spoke at length about the misconduct by some state governors.

Separately, Bonju denied some media reports that the assembly’s speaker has prevented MPs from speaking to the media.
