A state delegation headed by Governor Nyadeng Malek met with local officials and soldiers from the various organized forces in Turalei, northern Warrap State on Tuesday after a raid over the weekend that reportedly left nine people dead.

Much of Warrap State is under the protection only of the police, wildlife, fire brigade and prisons services, since many SPLA units left for the Unity front in December and January.

In an interview with Mayardit FM during the meeting, Governor Nyandeng said that if the police fail to protect the community then the state and local governments will increase the number of police.

“Starting today I want every force to fulfill their duties…  civilians are dying like animals. I feel disappointed when I see children and women killed,” the governor said.

The governor also addressed the forces telling them they shouldn’t be carrying a gun if they were not willing to use it, saying otherwise better to give it to someone who can protect the community.

Last Saturday nine people were killed and eight others wounded in an attack on a cattle camp from neighboring Unity State, according to Twic County Commissioner Biar Biar Ring, who said four of the dead were SPLA and the others civilians.
