Gok Machar faces shortages of medical staff, drugs

Medical clinics in Aweil North County in Northern Bahr el Ghazi State face shortages of medicines and workers, including in the clinics at the county seat, Gok Machar.

Medical officer Martin Dhieu in Gok Machar told Radio Tamazuj there are shortages of medical personnel at the town level and outside.

Martin said since May there was no improvement in the health centers in Aweil North County in term of medicines supplied and presence of medical staffs.

Of the very few doctors who were in the area, “some have been taken for further training in Juba and the rest left due to lack of proper support,” said Martin.

He said NGOs working in the health sector used to donate some medicines but now they are not supplying medicines any longer.

Martin said the common sicknesses include malaria and infectious diseases in Gok Machar and it is sometime difficult for patients to find treatment at the local hospitals.
