The county commissioner in Gogrial West in South Sudan’s Warrap state has expressed concern about a worsening humanitarian situation. He noted that the area is at risk of being cut off from neighboring markets by poor road conditions.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Commissioner Makuic Arou explained that citizens are suffering owing to food shortages. He attributed the problem to torrential rains and flooding that struck the county last year.

The official pointed out that poor roads and poor communications infrastructure also contributed to the suffering of local residents, saying the county headquarters is being negatively affected by the poor roads.

“The area is completely cut off because of poor roads, while the county authorities can’t construct roads connecting the county with neighboring areas,” he said.

Arou said Gogrial West County will be totally isolated from the markets if the issue of roads is not resolved as soon as possible.‫
