Counties in Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal have been hit by fuel shortages, days after residents of Lakes state reported a similar lack of petrol.

The price of petrol has gone up to 35 South Sudanese Pounds per liter in Wau in Western Bahr el Ghazal and in Tonj South in Warrap. Transportation has been paralyzed as customers struggle to cope with higher costs for motorcycle rides.

Citizens also report missing electricity and television news owing to lack of fuel for home generators. Residents fear that the fuel costs could affect prices of basic goods in the market.

Voice of Hope reported that all petrol stations in Wau are drying up as consumers queue around limited sources.

The manager of one petrol station in Wau, Runway Station, Mohamed Daud said he would close his business on Saturday because he didn’t expect new fuel to arrive until October.

Daud said up to 15 fuel tank trucks were stuck on Tombura-Yambio road due to bad road conditions.

In Warrap’s Tonj South County, a motorcycle rider named Atak Mangan blamed the state and national governments for neglecting infrastructure development in the country, resulting in the fuel crisis.

He urged the government to fix impassable roads for easy flow of goods and services to local communities.
