Four new MPs replace fired N. Bahr el Ghazal assembly members

Some of the newly appointed MPs fill seats in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal legislature that have been vacant since 2012, when three members were sacked for breaking the law.

“Their seats have been vacant for a long period of time, prompting the state government to appoint three others to represent their geographical constituencies,” said the assembly’s chief whip Daniel Deng.

The newly appointed MPs come from the PLM ruling party and will represent their constituencies in Aweil South, North, and Centre counties, a source told Radio Tamazuj.

Deng told Radio Tamazuj that a fourth appointee would replace an MP who rebelled and joined Gen. Dau Aturjong in August 2014.

Deng said the dismissed MPs were lawfully sacked for gross misconducts and that the state constitution does not allow them to continue serving in the parliament.
