Food shortages among Warrap IDPs

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) at Managui camp in Warrap State face continued food shortages.

The IDPS are staying between the border of Gogrial West and Twic County who arrived from Unity State in the beginning of 2014.

Gogrial West County Commissioner Makuc Aru said the IDPS received food and mosquito nets two weeks ago from the Red Cross and from the Episcopal Church of South Sudan but it is not enough.

Makuc said the IDPs from the camp are supposed to receive rations from the International Organization for Migration.

He said there are also shortages of food items in the market and that prices in Gogrial West have increased.  In Malou, some prices have doubled, with one kilo of meat costing 18 South Sudanese Pounds.

Makuc said most food items are shipped through Juba from Uganda but the road is bad.

Twic County commissioner Biar Biar said some IDPs were missed in a recent registration for receiving aid, and that they won't receive food until the next count.

“I have talked with UN agencies to do another counting then they will be given foods and other items missing to the IDPS camps including Managui camp at the border,” Biar said.
