Food ration delay at Rome camp in Upper Nile

About 11,700 conflict-displaced people are facing shortages of food at Rome Camp in Akoka County in Upper Nile, a camp leader said Monday.

James Mansour Dau told Radio Tamazuj that over 3,000 displaced people have not received food rations this month.

He attributed the problem to renewed fighting at Doleib Hill last week, saying aid workers evacuated the area as fighting erupted in the vicinity of Malakal town.

“A large number of IDPs came and raised a complaint to the authorities concerned about the delayed food rations,” he said.

Manour further said there has been a spread of infections including kala-azar and malnutrition with 125 kala-azar patients and four deaths over the last few days

He pointed out that they also suffer from shortages of shelter and medicines, while calling upon the international NGOs and relevant authorities to assist.

On 1 September, the Akoka County Commissioner told Radio Tamazuj that there have been 35 total cases of kala-azar outbreak with four deaths.
