Flooding in Mayom County

Heavy rains and flooding have collapsed several houses in Mayom County in South Sudan's Unity state.
Mayom County Commissioner John Bol told Radio Tamazuj Friday that the weather left a many families in need of urgent aid assistances, especially plastic sheets and tents.

“The heavy rains have affected almost seven administrative units in Mayom Count so citizens are suffering badly,” he said.

On 8 August, Medicins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders said about 40,000 South Sudanese citizens are living in flood conditions on a United Nations compound in Bentiu, Unity.

Separately, commissioner Bol said that the recent clashes between SPLA forces and opposition troops at Wangkei payam led to displacement of 50 households along with thousands of cattle.

Bol said the displaced are currently experiencing lack of basic services amid absence of humanitarian originations operating in Mayom County.

He called on authorities and aid agencies to provide humanitarian assistance to the needy people as soon as possible.
