Flood victims occupy schools in Warrap State

People displaced by floodwaters in Warrap State have moved into schools in the state occupying learning spaces, according to a humanitarian report.

In its latest situation report, the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that 24 new schools were reportedly occupied by people displaced by floods in Tonj South, Warrap State.

“Some 92,870 children… have been affected and are unable to continue with their learning. In addition, 91 schools are still occupied by displaced people and armed forces… in the other parts of the country,” reads the update.

The UN also reported that students who have completed their primary leaving exams in many parts of the state have no way to continue their education, saying, “there is no transition strategy for these children as secondary schools are neither established nor supported in many parts of the state.”
