Fire guts village in East Darfur

An extensive fire destroyed 25 houses and killed a number of cattle in Al Shairiya village in Sudan’s East Darfur on Thursday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses told Radio Tamazuj that several families in the village were affected by loss of property. The residents were unable to contain the fire due to the absence of modern fire-fighting equipment amid intense wind contributing to the spread the fire.

The citizens blamed the local authorities for being helpless during the incident, and called for the government to provide fire extinguishers to contain possible fire outbreaks in the future.
