Fire brigade officer sentenced to 8 years imprisonment in Bor town

A top ranking officer serving with the Fire Brigade department in Bor town of South Sudan’s Jonglei State was on Tuesday sentenced to 8-years imprisonment over corruption.

According to the presiding Judge Justice John Yel Aleu, Jonglei State High Court found Colonel David Deng guilty of corruption and gross misconduct during his service in 2017.

“The convict is imprisoned for eight years under Section 351 Penal Code Act 2008 for the disappearance of the Fire Brigade two months salaries in 2017,” Justice Yel told reporters.

Yel, who also serves as the president of the Jonglei High Court further said that the convict has been ordered to pay Fire brigade/ Civil Defense 6 million South Sudanese Pounds for salaries and pension.

David Deng, however, described the verdict as unfair, adding he will appeal in Juba.
