Family of detained Sudan opposition leader concerned about his health

The family of Farouk Abu Issa, Chairman of the Sudanese National Consensus Forces, have expressed deep concern at his health condition after weeks in detention.

A family member said that they were not allowed to visit him last Friday and Saturday when they asked for visit permission from the prosecution, and added that they were told that they could visit him next Sunday after the consent of the general prosecutor.

“We brought his personal physician from the hospital, and noted that he suffered from several complications he sustained during the period of the 15 the initial days he spent in solitary security custody,” said a member of the family.

“They deprived him of eating food and he just ate biscuits. That is the main reason for the appearance of signs of diabetes illness, which he did not suffer from before entering prison.”
