Failed sesame harvest in parts of Renk County

The sesame and sorghum harvest has failed at a number of agricultural projects in the northern part of Renk County in Upper Nile state, due to the presence of SPLA-IO rebels in those areas.

Farmers told Radio Tamazuj that they had been unable to harvest sesame and sorghum at their farms due to the poor security situation in various areas of Renk County.

They pointed out there are large areas that are being controlled by the rebels, prompting them to stop this year’s harvest. The farmers warned of a food gap in Renk County this year.

The complaining farmers further said many families who fled Renk refused to return back to the town due to the presence of the rebels on the west river bank, amid expectations of further clashes between the government troops and rebels from the area of Wadakona at any time.
