Factbox: Humanitarian funding in South Sudan

The financial cost of humanitarian services that are needed because of fighting between the SPLM-Juba and SPLM-IO factions led by Salva Kiir and Riek Machar is estimated to be $1.8 billion.

The United Nations has appealed for $1.8 billion for its Crisis Response Plan in 2014, but only 53.5% of that has been funded. The funding gap in the food sector is $421.1 million and in the nutrition sector $71.8 million.

A number of countries have donated millions of dollars to help humanitarian organizations. Collectively, their financial commitments reach $963.2 million. This is $838.6 million less than the UN appeal.

OCHA, the UN Humanitarian Coordination Office, released yesterday an update on the funding situation, in the format of an infographic, which is available for download below.
