Ethiopian PM to remain 'patient' with S Sudan talks
Ethiopia's Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn says he is "frustrated" with Salva Kiir and Riek Machar's failure to reach a peace deal.
Hailemariam has been hosting negotiations in Addis Ababa since January with no tangible results so far. Talks collapsed yet again on Sunday after less than a week of discussion.
However, the Ethiopian leader stopped short of announcing sanctions, a threat that the IGAD regional mediators have periodically mentioned throughout the conflict.
"In order to implement sanctions, we have to be sure that there is no other options, that this is a last resort. We have patience and we will continue to be patient for some time," Hailemariam said, reported AFP.
The talks adjourned so that the warring parties could celebrate Christmas after the two sides failed to reach agreements on power sharing within the executive and on the status of armed forces.
