Delegation arrives in El Fula to broker peace among Misseriya Humr clans

A reconciliation and peaceful coexistence committee arrived in El Fula town Monday in hopes of finding peace between the feuding Awlad Omran and El Zeyut clans of the Misseriya Humr tribe.

The delegation comprises political and tribal leaders of the Rizeigat, El Hamar and Misseriya Zuruq Arab tribes and is headed by several prominent leaders including former East Darfur state governor Abdel-Hamid Musa Kasha.

The mediators will hold a series of meetings in El Fula town and conduct consultative meetings with elders of the two clans.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, several tribal leaders said the committee is a positive step and expressed their optimism about reaching peace.

But some local residents expressed concern that the two sides may not be willing to compromise for peace.

Last week, the Awlad Omran and Zeyut clans signed a truce following clashes over land that left more than 80 tribesmen dead in Sudan’s West Kordofan state.
