Deadly tribal clashes in Kadugli and West Kordofan

At least two people from Nuba tribes were reportedly killed and one person wounded from a nomadic tribe in clashes in Kadugli town in Sudan’s South Kordofan state on Monday.

Hassan Ali, an eyewitness, told Radio Tamazuj that the clashes which took place in the town were instigated by an argument over cattle.

According to the same source, at least two people from the Nuba were killed on the spot during the tribal clashes, whereas one person was wounded from a certain nomadic tribe, who was taken to a hospital in Kadugli for treatment.

Elsewhere in neighbouring Western Kordofan state, at least nine people from the Falaita and another four from the Ajaira clans of the Misseriya tribe were killed in fresh clashes between the two clans at Kilo 50 area in Sudan’s West Kordofan state on Sunday.

The first clashes erupted between the two clans in Daban town last Thursday, in which about seven people were reported killed between the two sides and over 28 people wounded.

Hassan Mekki, a Misseriya leader, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that gatherings of the two sides were seen along the Muglad-Heglig route, saying the citizens were gravely concerned about a possible escalation within the Misseriya tribe.

Mekki also called on the state government to intervene before the fighting escalates between the two clans.
