Cross-border herders' conference kicks off in Upper Nile State

A conference for pastoralists living along the bordering states of Sudan and South Sudan has kicked off on 26th October in Manyo county, Upper Nile state, under the auspices of the civil administration.

Al Teib Ajak, the Manyo county commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj from Wadakona that a delegation of representatives of some nomadic tribes had already arrived in Manyo.

The delegation was headed by Sheikh Al Bar Al Nur, of the Hawazma, Beni Amir, and Hawamida tribes.

The commissioner noted that 32 tribes will be expected to participate. “Necessary arrangements are in place to start the conference today,” Ajak said.

According to a source the conference will discuss issues related to the grazing of cattle in the bordering states, and the maintaining of good relations between the tribes living along the border between Sudan and South Sudan.
