Criminals kill two elderly in Maban County

Two elderly were killed in separate incidents by unknown criminals in Upper Nile State’s Maban County on Tuesday.

The incidents occurred one day after an agreement was reached between the refugees and the host community in the county.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, county refugee affairs officer Angelo Bol Chan said unidentified gunmen killed two citizens in separate incidents on Tuesday morning.

The two victims were identified as Daffallah Awuna and Yagoub Jughana, both of them over 60 years old.

“Daffallah was killed at around 4:00 a.m. in his house and then his four goats were robbed by the criminals, whereas Yagoub was killed at around 7:00 a.m. while on his way to his farm,” said Chan.

The deputy supervisor in Doro refugee camp, Al Simawi Adlan, told Radio Tamazuj that the two victims were farmers. He noted the criminals killed the victims with cleavers then ran away.

He said a joint committee for investigation and conflict resolution headed by chiefs and sheikhs of both the refugee and host communities has been formed to probe the killings.
