Yei County Commissioner Bedale Cosmos has disclosed that a suspected cattle thief was killed during clashes with a joint security force along the Tore-Maridi border two days ago.

He said that the dead body was taken to Maridi County for further investigations.

Overall, the security situation is calm in Yei River County of Central Equatorial, according to the commissioner.

However, the commissioner said they still working hard to bring an end to internal problems between local farmers and pastoralists from Upper Nile and Bahr el Ghazal states who migrate seasonally into the county.

A peace meeting between Tore payam citizens and Dinka pastoralists was held in November in which many resolutions came up, Cosmos told Radio Tamazuj today.

Cosmos said the Dinka pastoralists agreed to return back to their state of origin in April. “In the meeting we told them to graze their cattle at a long distance away from farmlands in order to avoid conflicts with the locals,” he said.

Separately, the top county official said about 65 cows stolen from the Mundari tribe had been recovered after the peace meeting.

He also reported that a car stolen from a bishop living in the area had also been recovered by the police authorities. He added that the car was found at Khamsa Khamsin area recently.

The criminals are not yet apprehended by the police authorities, but investigations are underway according to the commissioner.

Separately, the official asserted that the police authorities are still searching for three men who disappeared mysteriously on 24 November in Yei.
