Radio Tamazuj learned yesterday from reliable sources of the possibility of clashes between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and a group of armed militias opposed to the government of South Sudan stationed along the border with South Kordofan, as they had intended to hand themselves over to the government of South Sudan.

The source indicated that the militia groups had been trained by SAF but now intend to leave South Kordofan state in order to defect.

Consisting of more than 1000 soldiers, 78 trucks loaded with military equipment and four land cruisers vehicles with heavy artillery guns, the group were on their way to Rubkona county in South Sudan’s Unity state when they were intercepted by SAF.

“The group withdrew at night with their facilities and said that they are not going to fight South Sudan government again. They felt into an ambush in Nyama area just near to Rubkona area as they were on the way to hand themselves to South Sudan authorities”.

Sources reported an ensuing outbreak of violent clashes between the two forces before speculating that the Sudanese government may have considered the move a great loss given the funding required to train such militias.

Juba and Khartoum have long accuse done another of harbouring ‘proxy’ militias although each have since denounced these rebel groups following the recent implementation of a bilateral cooperation agreement.
