Blue Nile’s Roseires sees discontent over food prices

Inhabitants of Roseires town in eastern Sudan are annoyed by rising prices of food items. ‘Roseires is boiling from high prices,’ a resident told Radio Tamazuj.

Roseires remains under government control in spite of the rebellion farther south in Blue Nile state. The town lies just upstream from Sudan’s main dam.

Citizens of Roseires told Radio Tamazuj that a kilo of beef costs 28 pounds, a kilo of goat meat is 35 pounds, and one malwa (bowl) of sorghum is 30 pounds.

A kilo of sugar price varies from village to village. Government-subsidized sugar is 5-6 pounds unsubsidized sugar is 7 pounds.

The inhabitants also were annoyed at that reduction in the weight of bread loaves sold at 4 pieces per pound.
