Blue Nile refugees continue to arrive in Maban County

Hundreds of people from Sudan’s Blue Nile state continue to cross each day into refugee camps in South Sudan’s Maban County, amid complaints of worsening humanitarian conditions.

Mubaruk Musa, the chief of Mafu area told Radio Tamazuj upon his arrival to al-Jamam camp that alarge number of citizens from Mafu and west Kurmuk in Blue Nile state recently arrived in the camp following ongoing violence between the SPLM-N and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

Musa explained that citizens of Blue Nile continue to flee insecurity in the region, and noted that the refugees lack food and essential items.

“I am the one who came with these citizens from Mafu area… located west of Kurmuk locality. People spent three days on the way from Mafu to Gufa Jadid area (and) from there they were transported to al-Jamam camp. They were transported by NGOs who we don’t know the names of.  Thank God they provided us with food. Due to the long distances, citizens are still suffering and the issue of water has become a problem here. We came here due to insecurity in the region,” Chief Musa recountedby phone from al-Jamam camp.

He called for improved services in the camp and the provision of assistance to the newly arrived refugees.

The SPLA-N and SAF have been fighting in Blue Nile state since last year.  While both sides have recently expressed a desire to enter into negotiations, there has been no sign of that yet.
