The Jandresa camp for Blue Nile refugees in South Sudan’s Maban County faces persistent power cuts and an acute shortage of water supply.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday several refugees complained of shortcomings by an organisation working on the provision of water at the camp.

They explained that they are suffering from a severe shortage of water since last month, due to the power cuts and inadequate water pumps. The existing pumps in the camp are not enough as the numbers of refugees are increasing, the refugees said.

However, the only organisation which had been providing water has recently moved to the newly inhabited camp in Kaya, they outlined.

Women have to line up in long queues since the early morning, wasting their time and energy in order to get potable water. The situation causes dispensable quarrels and wrangling among the refugees themselves.
