Blue Nile elder accuses governor of treachery

Badi Kabas Khalifa, a member of Blue Nile state’s civil administration, accused Governor Hussein Yassin of selling his constituent’s land.

The accusation comes barely a week after Khalifa and four other officials were released after being detained by security personnel. The five released a letter addressed to the president demanding he intervene and stop the governor’s actions.

“We are killing ourselves,” he said. “Our brother the governor, yes, he is a son of this land, but he has sold the land and its people. He has not brought about any good. There has been no improvement. That is why we presented this document.”

Upon their release, the five accepted an invitation from citizens of the Booth area, who wanted to understand the reason why they were detained and to learn more about the letter.

Khalifa told Radio Tamazuj that when Yassin learned about their departure, he traveled to Booth and asked residents to stop supporting the civil administration. But Khalifa and the other former detainees went ahead with their presentation.
