Bashir, Museveni to support S Sudan peace as Machar lands in Khartoum

Presidents Omar al-Bashir of Sudan and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda have reiterated their support to the recently signed peace agreement in South Sudan.

In a joint communiqué issued at the end of the visit on Wednesday, the two leaders vowed to exert the necessary efforts to bring stability to the new nation, saying both countries were directly affected by the South Sudan conflict.

The two presidents also reiterated their commitment to exert efforts to prevent the resumption of hostilities in neighboring South Sudan.

The Ugandan president on Wednesday concluded a two-day visit to Khartoum where he discussed with al-Bashir regional efforts to bring about peace in South Sudan.

Mohiuddin Jibril, a Sudanese journalist, said the two leaders discussed security issues regarding accusations of supporting rebels between the two countries.

Separately, South Sudanese rebel leader Riek Machar arrived in Khartoum on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by his official spokesman James Gatdet Dak.

Gatdet Dak said his boss was scheduled to meet al-Bashir to discuss the implementation of the peace agreement. The spokesman said Machar may meet Museveni during his visit as well.
