Western Equatoria State Governor Joseph Bakosoro says his state faces major security challenges caused by pastoralists who seasonally cross from Lakes state.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the governor called on Lakes state’s pastoralists not to cross to Western Equatoria for the sake of stability in the area.

He pointed out that the pastoralists are causing insecurity in the state by creating problems with local farmers, while accusing them of raiding cattle.

The top state official further blamed local authorities in Lakes state. He said the authorities are unable to stop the pastoralists from crossing to his state.

Bakasoro urged the pastoralists not to cause insecurity in the state.

Last week, The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said security problems between farmers and pastoralists were a major cause for concern in South Sudan.
