Youths in Babanusa Locality in Sudan’s West Kordofan state staged protests yesterday, alleging that the locality government’s fuel stocks were being sold by a member of parliament.

Hassan Hamid, a youth leader, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that about 93 barrels of fuel meant for power supply in the area have mysteriously disappeared recently, accusing that the fuel was sold by an MP to an oil company.

The angry youths threatened to escalate the matter in case the fuel is not returned back by the local authorities. He noted they had a meeting with the Babanusa Locality Commissioner and State Security Committee on the issue.

“During our meeting the commissioner was unable to give us justifications for this move and documents proving the sale of our share by influential personalities in the area,” he explained.

The protesting youths requested the commissioner to return back the fuel and provide a stable power supply for the local residents.
