Northern Bahr el Ghazal State police authorities are investigating an apparent suicide after the body of 35-year-old Akot Akot was found hanging from a tree on Saturday in Nyanlath Payam of Aweil Centre County.

The state police spokesperson, Captain Guot Guot Akol told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the man's wife was temporarily interrogated and will be called in for questioning again.

Guot said the circumstances surrounding the death, are not clear. 

“The incident took place on 2nd October around 5 PM at Bar Maal village under Nyanlath Payam. We started investigations with his (deceased) wife and she gave us the same information that was given to us by the neighbors that the man has passed by them happily before dying by suicide in a nearby forest," Captain Guot said. 

Aweil Center County Commissioner Peter Natali said the body of the deceased was taken to Aweil Civil Hospital for postmortem. 

"I visited the hospital and the doctors concluded that he hanged himself to death. I think he belonged to the Tonj area of Warrap, but he was married to one of Aweil's daughters so he came to attend the harvests season. No clear details whether there were disputes or not," Natali said.
