A number of tribes that straddle the border between South Sudan and Ethiopia participated in Ethiopia's Nations and Nationalities Festival held in Gambela on Wednesday.

The annual festival aims to celebrate Ethiopian cultural diversity and unity.

Several ethnic groups of South Sudan also inhabit the Gambela region of Ethiopia, including the Anyuak and Nuer.

Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir, who attended the event, is reported to have greeted attendees in the Nuer language.
